Bridal Portraits by Izehi

So a few weeks ago, a friend of mine asked if I would get into my wedding dress and pose for some bridal shots. I thought it would be fun to see if i still fit into the dress, and i did. Well, here are the results of her work. She was incredibly professional, innovative, and enthusiastic. We had a great time. I hope you enjoy. Let me know if you would like her contact information.

Mom's Birthday Celebration

Mom had a milestone birthday this June 29th. Britt and I did not have a suitable time to celebrate until a few weekends ago (sorry Mom), but we definitely made up for the delay. First we gave her exactly what she wanted, an extensive scrapbook from Europe that Britt and I had spent hours on. Then we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of shopping and Cheesecake Factory. Afterwards, we took mom for a surprise.

We set up a glassblowing demo for Mom to watch at UTA in the glassblowing studio. A couple of friends of mine, named David Ricks and Matthew Patterson, really blessed us by taking the time to do the demo.

Here are the pictures from the demo. David Ricks (Undergraduate Sculpture Major at UTA) is dressing in green and Matthew Patterson (Graduate Glass Student and GTA of our Glassblowing classes) is assisting David and wearing blue.

Here Matthew is holding the color to apply to the clear glass that David is working.

OK back to David....














Matthew is at the end blowing air into the piece.

David uses gravity to elongate the piece by swinging it downward.

























David uses the torch to reheat specific areas of the piece so they become workable again.

Here they are transferring the piece from the blowpipe to another pipe so that David can create the mouth of the vase that will end up being the white end.






To transfer the piece, David scores the edge around his pipe and then taps the pipe and the glass breaks free.





Matthew holds the paddle in front of Davids forearm to protect him from getting burned.

























Finally, when all the shaping is complete, David taps the pole and Matthew catches the piece as it breaks off.


The glass has to stay in this kiln contraption until it cools properly (about a day or so). Sorry for so many pictures. This is the coolest process and thought you guys might like to see each step.

Afterwards we went to Starbucks to get an energy kick. Then the fun day was over. Happy Birthday Mom, you're the best. We love you so much!!
